John Griffin is entering his eighth year as Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at John Paul II
High School.  Prior to JPII, Coach Griffin coached at Parish Episcopal School where he
amassed a record of 126-41.  During the 2017-2018 campaign, Coach Griffin led the Lady
Panthers to a 31-7 record while winning the TAPPS 6A State Championship.  It was his first 6A
state title and his second consecutive 30-win season. Griffin won the TAPPS 2-4A District
Championship in his first season as a head coach in 2014-15 season.  Since his arrival at JPII,
Coach Griffin currently holds a 305-112 overall record which includes three 30-win seasons,
three district championships and is a three-time TAPPS 6A Coach of the Year. In just his
second season at JPII he led the Lady Cardinals to the TAPPS 6A final four in the 2019-20
season and returned to win back-to-back TAPPS 6A state championships in the 2021-22 and
the 2022-23 seasons. He is also the winningest girls’ basketball coach in JPII girls’ basketball
history. Coach Griffin has had the luxury of coaching some fine athletes who has gone on to
shine at the collegiate level. Nevaeh Tot (Univ. of Oklahoma), Neveah Parkinson (Arizona State
Univ.), Lydia Cooke-Wiggins (Stephen F. Austin Univ), Taylor Haggan (West Texas A&M),
Allysia McDaniel (Univ. of Illinois at Springfield) & Sydney Wade (East Central Univ.)
Griffin received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Texas and his
Masters in Athletic Administration from the University of Miami.  John is married to wife Tiffany
and has two children, Emaleigh and Jonhenry.
