Lady Cardinals Basketball is led by Head Coach John Griffin and Assistant Coaches Kiara Tate
and Adrienne Lewis. Coach Griffin started coaching girls’ basketball in the 2013-14 season
after being a successful boys coach for many years and the results are phenomenal. He
currently has an overall record of 268 wins to 78 losses (a .756 winning percentage), 9 trips to
the regional finals, 5 trips to the state final four, 4 state finals appearances and holds 3 state
championships (2017-18, 2021-22 & 2022-23). A number of girls in his program has gone on to
play at major D1, D2 and D3 schools.
The JPII Girls Basketball program prides themselves on family, all of the girls 9th through 12th
work together for a common goal and that is to be the most successful girls basketball program
in the state. The coaching staff puts the girls in situations to prepare them for that challenge and
the atmosphere along with building their character gives the team the opportunity for that
success. We compete in the largest classification in TAPPS district 1-6A. We have a year-
around program starting with the athletic period which also rolls into off-season, summer and
pre-season workouts to prepare the girls both mentally, physically and spiritually.
