Varsity coaches and teachers at John Paul II are offering a variety of summer camps for youth student-athletes, including sport-specific camps as well as STEM, Chess, and Visual Arts camps, throughout the months of June and July. Each camp will be offered once and filled on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached. Camp dates and times will vary—please refer to the individual camp descriptions below for specific start and end times.
The cost for sport-specific camps is $150 per camp, with the exception of the Cross Country and Visual Arts Camp, which is $200. Partial payments will not be accepted.

The Cross Country Summer Camp will be available for John Paul II 9th - 12th grade students that are new cross country runners. The camp will be from 7am to 8:30am on June 1st-30th and July 6th-August 7th (Monday-Friday)

Baseball: June 1st-4th
The Baseball Summer Camp will be available for incoming 4th - 8th graders from 9am to 12pm on June 1st through June 4th. This is a great opportunity to gain understanding of our program and to build relationships with the coaches of the Cardinal Baseball Program. The Camp consists of three separate aspects of the game: hitting, pitching/throwing, and defense. Hitting skills include: Breakdown of swing mechanics, Tee / live hitting stations, On-The-Field Batting Practice, Power training stations & Video swing analysis. Pitching skills include: Breakdown of pitching mechanics, Throwing fundamentals, Arm care and conditioning, Throwing accuracy drills, Video analysis, & Athletic throwing drills. Defensive skills include: Fielding mechanics, Live defense from live hitters, Multiple reps from live drills, Blocking and framing drills, Proper footwork training, & Proper flyball readings. Baseball Strength, speed, and agility skills include: Plyometric and agility drills, Power conditioning drills, Total body strength drills, Base Running speed drills, Baseball specific agility drills, Aerobic Conditioning, & Comprehensive stretching program. STEM Camp (Co-ed) June 1st-4th 9am-12pm (2nd-5th); 1-4pm (6th-8th)
Calling all curious minds and future engineers! Our STEM Camp will dive into hands-on challenges exploring creativity and problem-solving. We will imagine solutions, build them, and most importantly test them! We will use a variety of materials to build, break, and rebuild, so get ready for a fun week putting your imagination to the test.

Boys Basketball Middle School Camp: June 8th-11th
There will be two Boys Basketball camps. The first will be available for incoming 5th - 8th graders from 9am to 12pm on June 9th through June 12th. The Boys Basketball camp will stress fundamental offensive and defensive skills. We will do the same drills our high school program does and will learn high level concepts. There will be an emphasis on individual development and there will also be team concepts taught through 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 games. Campers will become better players and have lots of fun! Boys Basketball Incoming Freshman Camp:June 8th-11th
The second will be available for incoming 9th graders from 1pm to 4pm on June 9th through June 12th. This camp is designed for the high school athlete, and campers will learn the John Paul II system. There will be video taken of all campers and reviewed with the coaches. We will be teaching and coaching the same concepts we use at the high school level, as this camp is intended for those interested in trying out for the Cardinal Basketball program. Tennis: June 8th-11th
The Tennis camp will be available for incoming 3rd-8th graders from 8AM-11AM on June 8th-11th. The camp is open to boys and girls of all skill levels—beginner to advanced players. Players will be grouped by level for drills, point play, and fun games taught by the JPII HS tennis coaches. This is a perfect opportunity to meet the coaches and to connect with other kids interested in playing on the JPII HS tennis team. Softball: June 8th-11th
The Middle School Softball camp will be available for incoming 4th - 8th graders from 8:30am to 11:30am on June 8th through June 11th. The camp will focus on defensive fundamentals and swing technique. Main areas of focus for defense will include but not limited to: proper throwing techniques, glove work, and defensive strategies. Hitting will focus on good bat path, as well as offensive strategies like base running, squeeze bunt, hit & runs, and sacrifice bunt. Swim and Water Polo: June 8th-11th
This camp is designed to give campers the opportunity to try 2 different sports at once. Each day, campers will be able to enjoy an introductory experience to swimming and water polo. During the first hour, current members of the JPII Swim team will be in the water with campers with different aspects of competitive swimming. We'll teach campers: the basic technique of all 4 strokes, build endurance for longer distances, proper technique of turns for all 4 strokes, as well as the different phases of racing. In the second hour, members of the JPII Water Polo team will be in the water with the campers working on the basics of water polo. This will include: how to tread water, beginning body positioning, ball handling, passing drills and form, shooting drills, the rules of the game, and introductory game strategy. The camp will be held at the Oak Point Recreation Center located at 6000 Jupiter Road Plano, Texas 75074. The dates are June 8th-11th (Monday-Thursday) from 1-3pm. Fundamentals of Chess Camp (Co-ed) June 8th-11th 9am-12pm - 3rd-12th grade (players will be separated by skill level)
Learn or hone your chess skills with a fun camp that focuses on the game and its strategy.
Sharpen your child's critical thinking and strategy skills through chess! This camp offers engaging lessons, friendly matches, and fun challenges to help players of all levels improve their game. Campers will learn key strategies, practice openings, and endgames, compete in mini-tournaments, and strengthen focus, patience, and problem-solving—all in a fun and supportive environment. No matter what your level, come out the JPII Chess Camp and have some fun, piece by piece, this summer. We have an instructor led session for those in 3rd grade thru 6th grade. We'll focus on your understanding and development through games, videos, and play. We also have an advanced session for those 7th grade and above. We'll focus on advancing technique and strategy. Get that rating bumped up. Each session is limited to 18 students, so register today.

The Girls Basketball camp will be available for incoming 5th - 8th graders from 9am to 12pm on June 15th through June 18th. This camp will be run by JPII Varsity Girls Basketball head coach John Griffin. Coach Griffin is a 2023 TAPPS 6A district Coach of the Year, 2017 TAPPS 5A district Coach of the Year, 3x TAPPS 6A State Champion (2018, 2022 & 2023), a three time recipient of the prestigious 6A Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Private School Girls Coach of the Year, and also was named by the Dallas Wings as a finalist for DFW Coach of the Year in 2018. Campers will learn the fundamentals of the game such as competitive and action dribbling, live game action shooting as well as all of the other factors that help players get to the next level in their development. Boys Lacrosse Camp: June 15th-18th
John Paul II is hosting a boys lacrosse camp, June 15-18th, from 9AM-12PM, available to all rising 5th-8th graders. Come and learn the fastest game on two feet! You will get an opportunity to learn the game of lacrosse (America's oldest sport), as well as work with the Varsity Head Coach and current Varsity players! We will stress the FUNdamentals of the game, including doing some of the same drills that our high school team does. This will be a skill based camp, with some team concepts also being taught throughout. We have extra sticks and equipment available for new players to use, so whether you are a current lacrosse player looking to get better, or just someone wanting to see what the buzz is all about, this camp is for you! Tournament Chess Camp (Co-ed) June 15th-18th 9am-12pm - 3rd-12th grade (players will be separated by skill level)
Sharpen your child's critical thinking and strategy skills through chess! This camp offers playing competitive chess in a friendly fast paced environment including Timed, Speed, Skittles, Battleship, and other fun quick style play. We have a dedicated instructor for those in 3rd thru 6th grade. We'll focus on development of tournament play including openings, notation, use of clock, what's a TD, asking for clarification/ruling, and proper procedure for reporting wins/losses. We have a dedicated instructor for those in 7th grade and above to focus on the advanced strategies of openings and their counter defenses, game notation review, following standard tournament rules, USCF vs FIDE, and USCF rating. This section will have a Chess Ladder with awards to the top players. Each session is limited to 18 students, so register today.

Cardinal Volleyball Camp: June 22nd-25th
This volleyball camp is open to incoming 5th–8th graders and will run from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM, June 22–25.The camp will focus on building fundamental offensive and defensive skills while introducing players to high-level concepts through the same drills used in our high school program. Campers will receive an emphasis on individual skill development while also learning team concepts through competitive 3-on-3 and 6-on-6 play. Volleyball Incoming Freshman Camp:June 22nd-25th

Visual Arts Camp (Co-ed) June 22nd - 25th 9am-12pm (2nd-5th grade); 1-4pm (6th-8th grade) $200 (includes art supplies) - can take up to 50 kids

Girls Soccer: July 6th-9th
The Girls Soccer camp will be available for incoming 5th - 8th graders from 9am to 12pm on July 6th-9th. The camp focuses on individual ball mastery and shapes of support. Juggling, dribbling & skill-moves as well as passing & receiving are utilized to address the technical component of the game. Small-sided activities such as 3v3 all the way to up to 6v6 help to develop the tactical component. We also use speed and agility exercises to aid in the development of coordination and athleticism. The Middle School Football camp will be available for incoming 5th - 8th graders from 9am to 12pm on July 20th through July 23rd. The camp will stress fundamental offensive and defensive skills. We will do the same drills our high school program does and will learn high level concepts. There will be an emphasis on individual development and there will also be team concepts taught through one-on-one matchups and 7-on-7 competitions. Junior Belles: July 20th-23rd
The Junior Belles camp will be available for girls ages 5-14 years old from 8am to 12pm on July 20th through July 23rd. Participants will learn dance and kick technique and a fun dance routine everyday! They will also play games, do a themed craft, eat snacks, take a picture wearing the Belle uniform, and receive a commemorative Junior Belle Summer Camp T-shirt.
