About the Program
The JPII Golf Program is led by Jacob Horton, who also serves as the Director of Instruction at the Performance Golf Academy at Sherrill Park in Richardson, Texas. Coach Dave Hasse, of the Performance Golf Academy, assists with the program, bringing a combined 60 years of coaching experience between the two coaches.
JPII Golf competes at the TAPPS 6A level in District 2, alongside four other district programs. During the 2025–2026 school year, the team consists of 19 co-ed student-athletes.
The program competes year-round, participating in both fall and spring seasons. Typically, the team competes in four tournaments in the fall and four to five tournaments in the spring, followed by postseason play including Districts, Regionals, and State Championships.
All team practices are held at the Performance Golf Academy at Sherrill Park in Richardson, Texas. Current practice days are Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 4:30–6:00 PM, providing athletes with consistent, structured training in a dedicated golf performance environment.

Coaching Philosophy
As the Head Golf Coach at JPII, Jacob Horton’s goal is to build a program grounded in long-term development, inclusion, and purpose. He is committed to providing an environment where golfers of all skill levels feel supported, challenged, and valued. Athletes are met where they are—whether their focus is personal growth, team contribution, or competitive excellence—and coached accordingly.
The program emphasizes teaching valuable life skills through the game of golf, including discipline, accountability, resilience, and leadership. Player improvement is driven through structured practice programs that provide clarity, consistency, and measurable growth rather than unstructured repetition.
Training extends beyond swing mechanics to include fitness and movement education, incorporating proven tools such as TPI to help athletes move more efficiently and stay healthy. The philosophy is simple: athletes first, golfers second.
With over 20 years of coaching experience as a PGA Professional and certifications across all areas of golf instruction, Jacob is dedicated to building a sustainable, competitive program that develops confident golfers and strong young adults.

Program Goals
While the ultimate goal of the JPII Golf Program is to capture the program’s first State Championship, our primary focus is building a program that welcomes golfers of all skill levels. We are committed to creating a culture centered on effort, growth, and a willingness to learn, rather than prior experience alone.
The JPII Golf Program is built for student-athletes who are motivated to improve and prepared to work hard. Through access to a dedicated golf academy, we are able to provide opportunities to a broader range of student-athletes than many programs, allowing more players to develop their skills in a structured, supportive environment.
Beyond competition, our goal is to develop young people who are prepared to lead in whatever path they choose after high school. Through the game of golf, athletes learn responsibility, perseverance, integrity, and teamwork—skills that extend far beyond the course.
Success in this program is measured not only by wins and championships, but by the quality of student-athletes who leave JPII ready to lead, compete, and contribute.
