Both the JPII Men's Golf Team and the Lady Cardinals were on the course for the first time this spring on Monday, February 3rd. Both teams continued in their winning ways from the fall as both teams emerged as Champions from this prestigious event at The Bridges in Gunter.
The Lady Cardinals were led by Junior standout and captain,
Gabriela Calce with a 76. This was good for low medalist honors for the very windy day on the tough Bridges of Gunter layout. Sophomore
Grace Skinner followed with a 91 which was good for runner-up honors. Junior
Caroline Grein posted a 100, while sophomore
Alexa Fuentes posted a career best 101. Freshman Emma Rizzolo completed the group with a 110. Our team score of 368 was good for a 20+ shot victory.
Coach Smith commented "I was proud of how the girls came out this spring. It's always nice to get the win. We have not played on this course before and it was extremely windy. I know the girls wanted to start strong. You just never know what kind of weather you will get in February. We were fortunate to get a very warm day although it was breezy."
The Men's Cardinal Golf Team continued with their success from the fall as they posted a 315 total score that was good for a 3 shot victory over Milford. The Cardinals were led by junior Ian Giddiens with a career low 1 under par 71. His career best was good for 2nd place medalist honors. Junior standout and recent US Naval Academy commit,
Elijah Estonilo followed with an even par 72, good for 3rd place medalist honors. Senior
Blaine Bitler followed with an 84; while senior
Caden Oldham and sophomore
Walker Shaw posted 88 and 89 respectively. Nicholas Rizzolo competed as an individual medalist and posted an 86.
"This team has been very strong this year, winning 4 out of 5 events in the fall and now starting with a win in the first event of the spring and I am looking forward to the rest of the season" said Coach Smith.
