GARLAND: The Varsity Girls Golf Team competed in the Naaman Forest Invitational yesterday hosted by Firewheel Golf Club. Head Coach
Bruce Smith spoke about the tournament, "The girls fought hard today and were only 4 strong as we were unable to put a full team of 5 players on the course. The girls were led by freshman sensation
Olivia Kochan with a 79, which was good enough for 3rd Place medalist. Junior
Caroline Taylor posted a career best score of 79, only to lose a scorecard playoff to her teammate
Olivia Kochan. Freshman
Sydney Lewis posted an 84, good for 6th Place medalist; and freshman
Madelyn Bailey fought through some stomach issues to post an 89, good enough for 10th Place medalist. I thought the girls played hard on a very dry, dormant course. Ground conditions at Firewheel were very baron and it was tough to chip the ball. I still think we throw away too many shots up close to the green and on the greens. If we are going to compete for the State Title, we will have to clean up some of these mistakes. Hopefully with the warm weather, our games will heat up as well." Next up for the Varsity Girls will be the TAPPS District Tournament at Watters Creek on April 1st.
