RICHARDSON: The Varsity Hockey team hosted Shreveport on Sunday afternoon in the team's final game before the holiday break.
Timothy Nickerson opened up the scoring for the Cards in the first period with help from
Logan Sharack. The Mudbugs tied things up before
David Silva took back the lead with 55 seconds left in the period off an assist from
Samuel Williams. Shreveport didn't wait long to tie things up again, scoring just 16 seconds later to make it 2-2 at the end of the first.
Silva netted his second goal of the game four minutes into the second period after a couple of great passes from
Timothy Nickerson and
Robert Teeling. The Mudbugs netted the equalizer three minutes later, knotting the score at three apiece. The Cardinals then scored four answered goals across the second and third periods to take a 7-3 lead. Sam Williams scored twice in a matter of three minutes at the end of the second period to go up 5-3, then
Jared Burkhart and Nickerson added to the lead in the beginning of the third period. A big three goal run by the Mudbugs in the final four minutes of the third frame made it close, but the Cardinals were able to hold on for the 7-6 win. JPII improves to 8-5-1 overall and sits in 2nd place with a two point cushion in the Dallas Stars AT&T High School Hockey League.
