RICHARDSON: The Varsity Hockey Team hosted the Shreveport Mudbugs on Sunday afternoon, looking for their 3rd win of the season. JPII would outscore Shreveport in each period, showing off impressive teamwork throughout the game for the 5-1 victory.
The Cardinals opened the scoring after
Timothy Nickerson and
Garren Pho assited on a Aaron Kieth goal halfway through the first period to put JPII ahead 1-0. Junior
Jared Burkhart snuck one past the netminder less than three minutes into the second frame for his fifth goal of the season, followed closely by Keith's second goal of the game just minutes later, assisted by
Logan Sharack. The Mudbugs answered back with a tally of their own with less than five minutes remaining in the period to cut the Cardinals lead to 3-1.
Brady Hughes found Keith for his third goal of the game to put the Cardinals ahead 4-1, with the hat trick star recording his 10th point of the season with the goal. Finally,
Samuel Williams sealed the 5-1 win on a shorthanded goal with less than seven minutes remaining. JPII goalie
Jorge Villarreal shut down the Mudbugs, stopping 14 shots to earn his 3rd win of the season.
