PLANO: The Varsity Tennis team hosted Prestonwood Christian on Tuesday afternoon in the first meeting between the two teams this season. Coming off of a hard-nosed battle with TCA last week, the Cardinals handled the lions yesterday with relative ease.
The top two Boys Singles for JPII defeated their PCA opponents without surrendering a game, as both
Jake Vo and
Jonas Aronsson won 6-0, 6-0. Girls #1 single
Nataly Montemayor also impressed in her 6-0, 6-1 win over Prestonwood's Donya Kinley, who qualified for state last year. Similarly, Girls #2 single
Valeria Gonzalez shut down her adversary 6-4, 6-1.
Top Boys Doubles team
Ryan Ward and
Aaron Keith won handily, 6-2, 6-0, while the Girls #1 Doubles pair of
Lindsay Keith and
Sofia Moldovan were not troubled in their 6-1, 6-1 victory. Both #2 Doubles teams of
Alex Rossigno/
Jackson Betz and Alex Christmas/
Torie Pensado won with little trouble, taking career of the lions 6-1, 6-0, and 6-2, 6-1, respectively. The Girls #3 Doubles team of
Riley Nelson and
Keegan Conaway were brilliant and refused to give up a single game to their challengers, handing out a pair of bagels in their 6-0, 6-0 win. Boys #3 pair
Will Dawson and
Donte Truong were handed the only loss for JPII on the day in a match that was closer than the 6-2, 6-2 final score indicates.
Altogether, the Cardinals outscored the Lions 120 games to 18 in their most dominant performance of the season. John Paul II will look to build on their momentum next week when they welcome Parish Episcopal to the ESC on Tuesday, February 22nd.
