MESQUITE:  The Varsity Football team traveled to Dallas Christian on Friday night for a pre-district matchup with TAPPS D2 opponent Dallas Christian.  The Cardinals opened up the scoring in the first quarter with a 56-yard TD burst from junior RB 
Grant Robinson (12 carries, 104 yds, 1TD), but were held scoreless for the rest of the first half by a stout Chargers defensive unit.   A field goal and two touchdowns from the Chargers made it a 17-6 deficit at the break.  The Cardinals regrouped in the second half and held Dallas Chrisitian scoreless in the third quarter, led by junior LB 
Brandon Tucker (9 tackles), junior LB/TE 
Kyle Taylor (7 tackles), and senior DL 
Dylan Harris (5 tackles).  The Cardinal offense came alive again in the fourth quarter as junior QB 
Grayson James (15-32, 142 yds, 1 TD) found junior WR 
Myles Parker (3 rec, 19 yds, 1 TD) in the end zone with a 7-yard TD dart.  The Cards tacked on a 2-pt. conversion with a pass to senior RB 
Carson Collins (8 carries 32 yds, 2 rec, 7 yds) to make it a one score game at 14-18.  Other offenive contributors include junior WR 
Shunte Nettles (4 rec, 60 yds), junior WR 
Jerand Bradley (3 rec, 30 yds), and senior TE 
Donavon Johnson (3 rec, 21 yds).  The Chargers would score late to put the game away, with your final score 14-25.  The Cardinals now stand at 2-1 overall and look ahead to another pre-district matchup with Legacy Christian, this time a home contest where JPII will celebrate its Future Cardinal Night on the field before the game.
