Jayme Baker-Nelson is an accomplished softball coach, wife, and proud dog parent, residing in Richardson, Texas, with her husband, Micah Nelson, and their three dogs—Cappi, Sedona, and Lasorda.
Coach Baker’s passion for softball started at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where she played college softball and earned a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education, followed by a master’s degree in Athletic Administration. Her coaching journey began at Southeastern Oklahoma State University as an assistant coach, where she helped guide the team to two NCAA Division II playoff appearances.
After her time at SE, Coach Baker moved to Berkner High School in Richardson, where her leadership led the team to seven consecutive UIL playoff appearances, including two district championships and one bi-district championship. She was honored twice as the All-District Coach of the Year and once as the All-Richardson ISD City Coach of the Year for her outstanding contributions.
In 2019, Coach Baker took the helm at John Paul II High School (JPII), where she led the team to even greater success, earning two TAPPS 6A State Championships, two final four appearances, and four district championships. Her leadership earned her District Coach of the Year honors twice and in 2021, she was named JPII Coach of the Year. Under her guidance, JPII reached a top 20 ranking in the state of Texas among all high schools.
Throughout her career, Coach Baker has coached numerous athletes who have gone on to play at the next level, showcasing her ability to develop and mentor young talent. She continues to inspire and shape the future of softball, both on and off the field. Baker's overall coaching record is 229-86-1 and has an overall record at JPII of 138-26-1 with a District record of 34-1-1 since taking the helm.
