DALLAS: On January 21st the Varsity Girls Basketball team traveled to Mesquite to face their biggest rival, Bishop Lynch. Both teams entered the game undefeated in district play with identical 3-0 records, and to top it off the matchup was billed as the Sportsday DFW "Game of the Week".
Friday night's game between the TABC Large School #2 & #3 teams in the state certainly lived up to the hype. The Lady Cards struggled early, perhaps letting their nerves get the best of them in the first half as they shot less than 20% from the floor. Trailing the Friars 11-21 at halftime, JPII had a choice to quit or battle back. Just as they've done all year, John Paul II made adjustments and tightened up their game.
In the 3rd quarter the visitors began to settle down as the Lady Cardinals outscored Bishop Lynch 15-6 to make it a one point game heading into the final frame. Both teams traded big buckets to begin the fourth quarter, but the Friars pulled away later to fell the Cardinals by a score of 51-40.
