PLANO:  On Tuesday, January 18th John Paul II hosted their cross-town rivals in Prestonwood Christian Academy in the first meeting between the two teams this year.  The Lady Cardinals and Lions have been evenly matched the last two seasons, splitting their home-and-home series in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.  

The first half was a back-and-forth affair as both teams vied to deliver the first knockout blow.  JPII built up a big first half lead and sent PCA packing in the final sixteen minutes.  They opened up the third quarter with a 17-5 run en route to a 26 point victory, winning by the score of 61-35.  The speed and defensive pressure from the home team put the Lions on their heels throughout much of the contest, and Prestonwood had no answer for the Lady Cards' size in the paint.  

Junior Taylor Haggan had a monster game, notching a double-double after finishing with 23 points and grabbing 10 boards.  Fellow juniors Alana Goosby (9pts), Lydia Cooke-Wiggins (8pts) and Destiny Jones (7pts) also aided the Lady Cards in victory.  JPII now improves to 3-0 in district play after previous wins against TCA and Parish.  

The JPII Lady Cardinals will travel to Mesquite on Friday, Jan 21 to face their biggest rival, TABC #2 ranked Bishop Lynch Lady Friars at 6pm.
